Recording performance poet Niall Spooner-Harvey presented two main challenges: firstly, given that the finished recording was nothing but Niall’s voice I had to try and minimise all room reflections (subtle echoes that you wouldn’t normally notice in a full music mix). Secondly, he has a habit of going from a whisper to a shout within a few lines, so I needed to be able to handle both extremes, while keeping the sound fairly natural…
